Your real estate agent for Solingen and the surrounding area
At first glance, you would hardly guess that this independent city in the Bergisches Land region is an old industrial town - Solingen impresses with its greenery and high residential value in the midst of rolling hills and green forests. Instead of a historic city center, you will find a kaleidoscope of small-town settlement cores. But above all, the "city of blades" is known as a traditional center of the cutlery industry - the name 'Solingen' has long been a trademark for quality knives and solid scissors. Another unique selling point is the imposing Müngsten arch bridge, which is even internationally renowned as the highest railroad bridge in Germany.
However, it is certainly the quality of life due to the location and infrastructure that makes Solingen so attractive for locals and future residents. In the five districts of Gräfrath, Wald, Ohligs/Aufderhöhe/Merscheid, Burg/Höhscheid and Solingen-Mitte, there are numerous properties to suit every taste - whether it's an apartment in the city center or a home in the countryside.

History of the "City of Blades"
The urban area of Solingen emerged from a historical landscape that for centuries consisted of rural farms, independent communities and a clerical lordship, the Gräfrath monastery. As early as the late Middle Ages, the Dukes of Berg established an overarching administrative and judicial district based in Solingen. From the 13th century onwards, the craftsmen and merchants of the Solingen region specialized in the production and sale of sword blades and knives. With the industrial revolution in the 19th century, the population figures exploded: Rural communities became dynamically growing towns, which condensed into an urban landscape. People spoke of the "Solingen factory", meaning neither a town nor a factory, but the clearly defined geographical area in which knives, cutlery and
blade weapons were produced. In 1926, Wald, Gräfrath, Höhscheid and Solingen, including Ohligs, were merged into one town as part of a municipal reform. With the "Law on the Municipal
Reorganization of the Rhenish-Westphalian Industrial Area", which came into force on 1 August 1929, the new city was given the name Solingen - as a trademark for quality, it is the only city in the world whose name is protected by trademark law.
Culture & nature
Whether theater, cinema or concert: Solingen also has a lot to offer culturally. The Solingen Theatre and Concert Hall offers a diverse program ranging from cabaret to classics, from chamber concerts to symphonies with the Bergische Symphoniker and from choral concerts to opera. Varied events, exhibitions and concerts can also be discovered in the old goods halls in Südpark, an attraction for all those interested in art and culture.
In addition to the cultural offerings, the region around Solingen also has its scenic charms and its reservoirs, rivers and streams invite you to take long excursions. The city's green oases, such as the Brückenpark, are also a wonderful place to unwind - right in the heart of the city.
Accessibility & connections
The entire city area is served by various bus lines, including the outlying districts. Solingen is also connected to the Rhine-Ruhr S-Bahn network. In addition to ICE and IC trains, the S1 line runs from the main station via Düsseldorf in the direction of Dortmund and the S7 in the direction of Wuppertal. Regional trains run to Rheine, Cologne, Bonn and Krefeld, among others. By car, you can reach Oberhausen and Cologne via the A3 and Wuppertal and Düsseldorf via the A46. Düsseldorf International Airport is also easy to reach and is less than a 30-minute drive away.
