Can a four-day work week work?
The home office offers many advantages. During the pandemic, it reduced the number of people in the office and on public transit and made it clear that it is possible to balance a job and family. While the pandemic is now over, working from home has become established - also to help employees manage their lives.
The labor shortage is forcing employers to consider how they could attract new employees and give them motivation. The "New Work" trend wants to bring change and transformation to the world of work. The point is that employees not only work when they are in the office, but that they are more productive under the given conditions.
Flexibles Würmtal
Christoph Pfänder, Managing Director VON POLL IMMOBILIEN in Gräfelfing said: "Our real estate store must be occupied during opening hours. But the brokers are all the more flexible in their timing and are of course based on the customers. Appointments at the weekend or in the evening are not uncommon. In the end, it's all about the bottom line." In his opinion, a four-day week in the sense of the "New Work" does not start in the right place. "The work remains the same if you only have four days available, and you're still not free in terms of time allocation on work days." Interesting approaches, he said, are the research on sleep behavior. According to this, in a well-rested state, i.e., in life without an alarm clock, one works through the same workload with significantly less energy. "Exciting approaches," says Pfänder.
